What:

Reinhold Messner –
My Life at the Limit

and
Mountains From Space

My Life at the Limit
USA, 2014, 1st ed. 272 pp, color photos. IN ENGLISH. This, the newest book by the famed mountaineer, is a conversation between Messner and interviewer Thomas Huetlin, an award-winning German journalist. It reveals a more thoughtful and conversational Messner than one finds in his previous books, with the 'talk' between Messner and Huetlin covering not only the highlights of Messner’s climbing career, but also his treks across Tibet, the Gobi, and Antarctica; his five-year-stint as a member of the European Parliament; his encounter with and study of the yeti; his thoughts on traditional male/female roles; and much more. Readers learn about Messner's childhood, his thoughts about eating ice cream with girls (against), politics (mostly liberal), and his technique for killing chickens (sharp scissors). Messner is known as one of history’s greatest Himalayan mountaineers, a man who pushed back the frontiers of the possible for a whole generation of climbers. While the interest in My Life at the Limit is that it exposes much more of the man than his climbing career, however that career is still utterly remarkable. New paperback, no hardcover issued.

My Life at the Limit is SIGNED by Reinhold Messner.

MOUNTAINS FROM SPACE - NEW LARGE FORMAT HARDCOVER WITH DUST JACKET. 2005, 1st edition. 224 pp, 120 full color photos. Using highly specialized, advanced digital satellite imaging - first made possible in the year 2000 with the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission - this book presents an astounding collection of images of the Earth’s mountain ranges carefully compiled over the course of five years by the German Remote Sensing Data Center. Now available to the public for the first time here, the most majestic peaks on all seven continents are visible as they never would be to the naked eye-in views taken from 500 to 15 miles above the Earth that reveal the entire mountain range at once, unobstructed by clouds, haze, and the refraction of light. Mountains from Space is much more than a collection of extraordinary pictures; it is a serious work of nonfiction about every important aspect of these fascinating geological formations, from their genesis by volcanic activity to their specific sociological features. Contributions by esteemed scientists and mountaineers alike highlight this provocative study of our planet Earth. About the Author: Professor Stefan Dech holds a teaching chair for remote exploration at the University of Würzburg, Germany. Rüdiger Glaser is a climate researcher who holds the teaching chair for physical geography at the University of Freiburg, Germany. World-renowned mountaineer Reinhold Messner shares his unique perspective and experience along with other mountaineers like Stephen Venables, Christophe Profit, and Alexander Huber.
